Amal Shahid ha 16 anni e due passioni: il disegno e la poesia. Anzi no, tre. Il disegno, la poesia e Zenobia. Le prime due cerca di coltivarle, nonostante l’insegnante di arte – pur riconoscendo il suo talento – lo considera poco motivato e problematico.

Il libro è interamente scritto in versi. Si alternano i momenti presenti, dove Amal racconta la vita in carcere, a quelli passati, dove impariamo a conoscere questo ragazzo.
Le sue paure, il suo coraggio, la capacità di rimanere umano in un luogo di disumanità.
Ci dobbiamo porre delle domande durante la lettura. Dobbiamo forzarci ad essere onesti, perché stiamo guardando da una posizione privilegiata.
Un romanzo forte, toccante, necessario.
